SUMMARY:Presentation - "Tuscan Autumn"
DESCRIPTION:The first event of 2026! \nWe start this part of the season with a presentation by Naomi Saul showing images from Tuscany. \nThis will be a delightful stroll through the Tuscan countryside in the area known as Val D’Orcia. The main emphasis being the beautiful light that is evident in the area and the way in which it shifts throughout the day\, highlighting different aspects of the countryside. Showing the wonderful contours of the valley\, we will be able to see how important it is not only to photograph at different times of the day\, but also to try out different angles and directions while often staying in almost the same spot. Always taken using a tripod\, Naomi’s photos reveal the subtle changes in colour\, shape and texture that the changing light brings about. \nDon’t forget that next week is the Ken Hitch Trophy themed PDI competition\, so get your entries into PhotoEntry by midnight tonight.

SUMMARY:Digital Techniques session
DESCRIPTION:This evenings meeting will be held in person at the College and will be one of our periodic “Digital Techniques” sessions run by John Harvey. The topics that will be covered are as follows: \nFirst Half – “Introduction to Landscape and Wildlife Photography Styles” \nJohn is a member of both Cambridge and Ely clubs\, and has submitted his images to competitions held by both clubs. Some of those images have scored consistently\, while others have scored better at one club or the other\, so lets see whether you can can guess which ones got the variable scores! John will be explaining his choices of style when processing his images\, and why that sometimes means that a judge will view his images differently. \nAfter the break – “Processing Landscape and Wildlife Images” \nWe are conscious that we have quite a number of new members this year with more limited experience of post processing\, so in the second part of the evening\, John will start with some basic edits in Lightroom and Photoshop. John will then move on to more advanced editing\, showing how to blend images together to achieve the ‘look’ that he wants\, using High Dynamic Range and focus bracketing techniques. \nThe evening will therefore be extremely useful for members who are still learning about photography\, but we hope that there will be something to learn for more experienced members as well. \nWe hope that you will be able to join us for an entertaining and informal meeting! \n

SUMMARY:Ely Photographic Club Invitation Challenge competition
DESCRIPTION:We will be hosting this brand new event for the first time tonight. Seven other clubs have been chosen from a pool of local clubs using an algorithm which randomly selects the clubs. As a consequence\, Ely will be competing against some of these clubs for the very first time this evening. Each club will submit their four best prints and PDI’s and the event will be judged by Clive Harward. \nThere will be refreshments and a raffle\, and the event will start earlier than usual\, with judging from 7pm. The winning club will have their name engraved on the new shield and will retain this until the following year. Any raffle prizes that members can donate would be most welcome\, (as would any help with setting up and taking down the equipment\, starting from 6.30pm please). \nWe are looking forward to hosting this brand new regional competition and best of luck to all of the clubs competing!
