Presentation – “Photographing the night sky”

May 17, 2023 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Pete Colley will be the presenter this evening, looking at how to take images of the night sky, and astrophotography.

Our eyes can only glimpse a tiny fraction of the incredible lightshows and beautiful objects that our night skies have to offer, but with the cameras and lenses that most photographers already have we can capture the stunning displays and many of the amazing astronomical objects that will only reveal themselves after the sun sets.  In this talk Pete will present nightscapes that include our moon, noctilucent clouds, aurorae, and zodiacal light, stars trailing around the celestial pole, comets and meteors flying through the night, the intricate beauty of our own galaxy, and and distant nebulae that we can at best barely see with the naked eye. Pete will share useful resources to help plan our night-time outings and will advise on lenses and camera settings, and will answer any questions at the end.

Please remember to submit your entries for next weeks Members Choice competition to PhotoEntry by midnight tonight (including pdi copies of your print images) for scoring in advance of the AGM and Members Choice competition next week.
